BAD MOMS (no spoiler)

I have been wanting to see this movie forever. A bunch of us planned on seeing it at our own screening but that feel through because well....we are moms and everyone is busy. I did end up seeing it thought two days in a row. Yes...I saw it twice. I laughed just as much the second time as I did the first!!

The first day I went with my friend Christy, MIL and she invited some fun friends as well. We went to Mexican and then the movie. It was GREAT! Laughed so hard I thought I might pee myself.

The second day I finally talked my friend Megan into going. Cassie and I went and picked her up and away we went. It was interesting because the first time I saw it I was not going to take Cassie but then I realized I have to let go a little because in a month she is 18. She probably hears worse at school. Actually I know she does.

I laughed just as much the second time as I did the first!

Now lets get to the nitty gritty of this blog!!

I loved this movie because it really showed that no mom is perfect. NO MOM!! That everyone has dirt on them in some way or another. It also shows how much us moms care about our kids and try to do our best. Not the "best" of someone else's standards but to OUR best! It shows you no matter what your kid is doing, even when they drive you crazy... that we still love them very much! It even showed that realisticly  we should be not judging others. We don't know what's going on in their lives.

Now this may not be a God movie and maybe a lot of Christians wouldn't go to this movie (or maybe they would....I am not judging) but it really showed me some similarities.

Who knows I will probably be judged for writing this but just know that we all have different views on things. I took some of what I saw and laughed at it because I could relate to it in the movie and thought about it in the Christian sense too.

Treat others as you would want to be treated. Lets try and stop judging. I know I do it too and I am always working on it. Does it matter if you bring donut holes to a bake sale or you spent hours making cupcakes yourself? As long as the money is going to your kids right? I am not saying that those beautiful cupcakes didn't take you a long time and that you aren't awesome for it but the person who is working a lot and maybe who doesn't have time to make cupcakes instead  grabs the donut holes is just as amazing.

Lets stop judging. I mean seriously none of us like to be judged. We all know how it feels to be judged in life. None of us has escaped judgment I assure you.

Being Vulnerable and Real and Raw is okay! Personally I love my friends who can tell me their real stuff. It makes me feel more normal. I feel more connected to them. I even feel like I have a deeper friendship because they are willing to share with me their REALNESS and RAWNESS. If you aren't that way though....I get that too. Not gonna judge!

We all love our children. We all do it in different ways too. If you think about it though and look at all your friends whom you love dearly and who love you dearly......they ALL came from different backgrounds and were raised differently. That's what makes us unique. We love our children we just love them in different ways. Even if its the ones who loves them enough to give them up so they can be loved by someone else even more so.

I really loved the message in this movie. To be honest I loved that I could laugh at situations too. I saw myself in so many of them. In the end though....we are all bad moms. In the sense of NON of us are perfect. Its just not going to ever happen. I know I will keep trying my best but that's all I can ever do is MY best.

Hope I don't get judged just by this blog:)

They're Back!!

Cassie drew this of Ryan and I
After 2 months of not seeing my kids...THEY ARE BACK! I am so excited. Since we are a blended family all our kids go to their other parents house for the summer. Its 2 months of what you think would be silence but we are actually really busy. Its the busiest time of the year for Ranchers.

I was really excited to pick up the kids from the airport. I wasn't thrilled that it was at 1230am and the plane was late. Seeing their faces though made everything better. I must say that my one son Joshua apparently has a different style at his dads house because he got off the plane wearing Sponge Bob Square Pants PJs. I just had to laugh. Here is this 6'3'' 15 year old wearing PJS and rocking it.

Josh in his pjs when we picked him up

Tired and waiting for luggage
We went to the hotel and slept because we were all exhausted and the next day we picked up Jackson, our oldest. Jason, our youngest, is staying for another week so he can spend half his bday there and half of it here.

Ryan knew I so needed Coffee. He cracks me up
I was so thrilled to see all their faces. Wished Jason was here too but I knew he would be here soon. We also met and picked up Cassies BFF Kyla for the week. We had a car load with all of us and all that luggage. So much so we had to buy one of those things for the top of my Expedition ha!

Hug Fight War
One of my favorite pictures is when Jackson tried to go hug Joshua. As you can see it turned into more of a laughing wrestling match.

We had a good day! Since we were in the city we went clothes shopping for school. Then went to the luxury theater to see Mission Impossible Rogue. The kids were pretty excited to see a movie sitting in lounge chairs. I laughed because I took a picture after the movie was over and the flash was on but wouldn't actually flash....so this is the picture we ended up with haha!

Movies
I am glad that school clothes shopping is done for 3 out of the 4 kids. whew! That always takes a load off. We live 2 hours from any type of mall so we just went to a thousand stores until they got enough pants, shirts, shoes etc to start this new year. The one thing I am finally thankful for is none of them grew over the summer tons so we still had clothes at home. We have had a child grow two sizes in
Jackson and Josh

Cassie and her bff Kyla
one summer before.

I am just thrilled to pieces that they are back! Its not quiet anymore and I have to remember how to cook for 6 again but I love every minute of it. Back to having a house of noise, questions, hugs (I hug them till they are almost uncomfortable and then finally let go ha), and where is food questions (when their is a huge pantry full of it). I love them so much! I am so glad they are home and had a good summer!

Now off to go feed the hungry teens once again! :)

Empty Nest Summer

Empty Nest Summer Syndrome? I guess this is what you would call my summer this year. Jackson and Jason left to go to their mom’s right after Graduation (as she came down for Jason’s). Cassie and Josh just left to go to their dads for the summer. I am childless…..and I don’t like it. I have to remember that this is the time that they get to have memories with their other parents so that calms my heart from missing them. I also get to refocus on my husband but mainly refocus on the things I like but never have the time for.

Jackson and Jason were visiting their Aunts while with their mom when we took Cassie and Josh to the airport. They have to go a couple states away so we always make sure to feed them and give them money for the one layover they have. You cannot let teenagers go hungry….you know which is literally every 5 minutes.  All you can eat Sushi is always a good choice. They can eat till they explode and it’s a onetime price of 15.00 each. Can’t beat that!

That reminds me and it’s kind of totally off the subject but I find it so funny that when we have two deep freezers full of food, the fridge to where you can’t fit anything more in it and a whole huge pantry of food that a teenager (probably only mine) asks WHEN we are going shopping because we have NOTHING to eat. Does anyone else get this too? Or is it just me? I am looking and thinking to myself that we could probably not buy a lick of food for a couple of months and still feed them every meal. I think it’s about the teenagers mind that if they don’t have a CERTAIN thing that they want to eat then there must be nothing to eat. Man…these kids are spoiled. They are going to really have a hard time in college when they get the college food menu of pizza and ramen ha! Actually because I coupon a lot my eldest son Jackson said he would pay me to coupon for him so he doesn’t starve to death in College. I see it now…They are going to shop in my pantry. You just watch and see. The “we never have food” is going to turn into “Mom you have too much food let me take it off your hands”.

Since the closest airport is 3.5 hours away we were lucky enough that MIL (Ryan’s mom Sally) stayed at our place to keep eye on animals and such so we could drop them off and not have to come back the same day. No one wants to spend 7 hours in the car….ok let me rephrase that. I don’t want to spend 7 hours in the car if I don’t have to.  I love to save money so we can spend it on other things so we got a hotel in Reno on Groupon for only $59.00 for a Suite at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. I love how casinos have the cheapest rates because they want you to gamble at their place. We don’t gamble so it makes it just a good deal for us!:) After the kids left had sushi and left on the plane we went to check in. Now what? It’s that sad feeling that all 4 kids are now gone and then that feeling of “
OMG let’s have a date night because we can”. Since all four kids live with us year round it’s a little different feeling than their other parent’s feel I am sure. I know it’s much more difficult for goodbyes for them.

We decided to wander around, shop a little and then go to a movie. When you live 80 miles from a movie theater going to a movie is a BIG thing! Heck we didn’t even know what was playing! We had to look up each movie and even see what it was about. Before moving to the ranch in the middle of nowhere we used to go to the movies every Tuesday night on the discount night. Now we are so thrilled just to see a movie on the big screen. It seriously cracks me up. THEN on top of it!!!! We went to a luxury theater and didn’t even know it. It was only 10 dollars to get it and it had seats that were recliners! I am still so amazed by this! My first thought was we have to take MIL to this when Jurassic Park comes out! My second thought was we have to bring the kids to this. This is amazing. So most of you probably have been to one of these. I HAD to take a picture haha! I mean when you buy the tickets you get to pick your seats. Assigned seating at a theater. At least you know when you bring a bunch of people you will all be together. I think I could live in this theater. Ok, maybe just maybe I am way too excited about this but it was awesome! Ryan and I loved it! As you can see we don’t go to a movie either unless you can have a huge thing of super buttery popcorn. I think going to the movies without popcorn is just so wrong ha!

We had a great time. Went to the Comedy SPY which was good. I love Melissa as an actress. It helped to take the bittersweet moments of the kids all being at the other parent’s house. We had a good romantic time together and were really thankful to MIL for watching the ranch for us. Next time we are going to go with her. I will do the 7 hours in the car so she can come too! So excited! IMAX Jurassic Park in Luxury Seats….I think I am drooling already….

The next day on the way home we had some errands to run and also stopped off at Home Depot to pick up a few things. I went crazy as usual and bought more plants. I always try to buy local when I can but these just called my name.  It was like my treat to be able to add more to my already growing garden. This is one of the things I am going to focus on when the kids are gone. By the time they come back it will be in full production of yummy veggies and fruits. I am always trying to come up with new ideas. I decided this time I am going to take a picture of the green house and the garden every Monday. Then at the end of summer make a video out of it and I can see how it grew week by week. So excited! I apparently get thrills out of the smallest ideas ha!

I

can tell though that I don’t know what to do with myself when I have no kids at the house because I start too many projects and start looking for more animals ha! I think I have that mothering nature where I want to nurture things all the time. The summer will fly by though and when the kids come back you just watch I will have to probably wear earplugs for a couple days because I won’t be used to all the noise. For now…I keep on music because it feels too deafening quiet. Shhh did you hear that? It’s my plants growing. Yep that’s how quiet it is while Ryan is at work and I am home.

Family Day

Sometimes you just have to get up and get away with your family. Since I got a new car (to me) this week I thought what would be more fun than going on a mini road trip. We had a couple appointments at Lens Crafters to get the kids their eyes checked and to see who needed new scripts or if they needed glasses at all. Since it is two hours away we wanted to make a family day out of it.

After testing eyes it ended up Joshua and Cassie needed glasses. Cassie already had some but her script had changed a little. I love watching the technology they do to make sure the eye is healthy and also that they have the right prescription.

After getting the glasses for these two we walked around the mall as prom is coming up this weekend to make sure that Jackson had the bow tie he wanted. Cassie already had her dress and Joshua doesn't want to go this year. I am thankful that both my kids who are going are going with friends. I think it makes for a fun dance where you can enjoy yourself and hang out with all of your friends. I am proud they both decided to go alone and to just have a blast.

After our appointment we decided to take the kids to the new Avengers movie. They were pretty excited. I personally don't LOVE, LOVE Avengers like my family does but it was a good movie. I think Cassie and Ryan are probably the biggest Avenger fans as they wear some of the clothes even ha! I love going to the movies with my family. We don't do it often as its really far from our ranch so it truly is a treat. The kids loved it. I loved having popcorn ha! Okay Thor and Iron Man aren't hard on the eyes either. Mid movie I leaned over to Ryan and told him that Iron Man makes me think of him. Maybe I will start calling him Iron Man and see what he does :)

With Joshua Bday, Jasons 8th Grade Graduation and Mothers Day coming up we decided to go to Kobe Steakhouse. This is a BIG treat for us. It was a great end to our day however. All of us sitting around a hibachi watching them cook and do a show. Delicious food. Its funny because we are at this super nice restaurant and Jackson asked to go to Taco Bell after. I told him I wasn't going to sit next to him if he said that and moved my seat jokingly. Of course after the food was served and we had an amazing time....Taco Bell was well forgotten. Hey when you live so far from restaurants even Taco Bell is a treat (yuck).

It was a good day. Lots of laughs and lots of fun. Just us and a memorable day. We love being able to treat the kids once in awhile. They were thankful and by the time we drove home there was a lot of silence from sleeping teens. It was a good day! I loved it. We are blessed to be able to do that once in awhile and thankful to God for those blessings.

Date night!

Let's be real....when you have four teens everyday is a busy day! Saturday doesn't mean things slow down just because it's a weekend;)

Jason, our youngest teen, had his 8th grade basketball away game. He had two actually. This time it was kinda painful for the kids bec they lost by a lot. I think those are learning situations though because you look for what was good and learn from the rest. We have 5 kids playing again this time so hey had no subs. For some reason they kept playing the same play over and over so the other team caught on quickly. They will learn and grow. I was super impressed because my son made a basket!!! This was his second game ever and first year playing and he made a basket!! I cheered so hard my throat hurt ;) Was a proud momma!

After we came home  we watched the videos I took and commented on what we could do better and watched the basket Jason made oh you know....ten times lol ;)

Next was date night! Kids were gonna stay home with a couple movies and some gumbo I made and we were having adult night. I think it's really important for a marriage and for the kids to see that we enjoy going out with each other. Our lives revolve around our kids and they know that. They even tell us that we should go out more and laugh more. Funny since we are always laughing. Sometimes as a parent though things get busy and it's schedule or no time or pickin up kids here or there. Just have to take that time. If your kid had an event to go to you would make the time......that's what we should do for ourselves too. I am glad we do date nights or even date lunches and love to spend time together.

Okay so our friends asked us to go on a double date to the movie "American Sniper" and out to Chinese food. We happily accepted. We are good friends as a couple but bog hour husbands are best buds so that's super nice. Don't you hate it when you go out as a couple but he guy or the girl doesn't like their spouse? We don't have to do this which is so nice!

We went to Chinese and talked adult talk.....life. It was refreshing. Then we went to the movies. So it was kinda funny because I am a popcorn addict but recently I stopped drinking my coveted Diet Pepsi about month ago so when I ordered large popcorn extra butter and a diet soda my husband laughed. Hey it's my date night. As we sit though and I took my first sip.....it tasted like crap to me!!! I walked back and got a water bottle and Ryan drank my drink.

The movie was excellent and although I knew the story on the legendary sniper I didn't know the ending. Don't worry I won't spoil it for you!!!! Or will I? Just kidding I won't. It was a really good movie and what a great story! I admit I cried and it made me think of all those amazing soldiers who have helped their brothers and their country. My father served, my sister, brother in law and my grandparents, my husbands family, our friend who was with us that evening and even my ex husband for 6 years.

After all was said and done...we had a great time with our friends. So much so we decided to go bi weekly to the movies together. This will be huge in itself considering we haven't been to a movie in forever and well he closet movie theater is 47 or so miles away;)

It was a good night, with good friends and we were blessed to have the time to do it;)
